Crown Lifts - Case Study, The Tower of London

Within the White Tower, a building dating back to 1066, there is a lift installed by Crown Lifts, providing access for the disabled.

National Heritage Society

Crown Lifts worked closely with the National Heritage Society and their architects. The challenge was to install the lift in such a way that the original walls and stone floors remained undisturbed. This was achieved by building a structure within the confines of the area given and sympathetically cladding all new materials to blend with the surroundings.

Disability Discrimination Act

The lift shaft provided was an awkward size and therefore Crown Lifts had to design a machine that could operate in the given dimensions. Our design department decided upon an hydraulic lift as this would give the biggest lift car interior size possible therefore ensuring its compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act.
