Crown Lifts - The EnvironmentAt Crown Lifts, we take our responsibility for the environment seriously and are in the process of attaining ISO 14001 accreditation, when considering all aspects of our operation we seek to minimise our impact on the environment and reduce our carbon footprint. We believe that everyone can contribute even in a small way by simply giving consideration to alternatives that in many cases can be adopted at no extra cost. Our StrategiesWe have already implemented many of the more obvious strategies such as minimising paper by the use of digital transmission of data including worksheets, time sheets, manuals, reports etc and actively encourage our suppliers and clients to accept emailed invoices and statements and to make use of electronic money transfer. Transport AlternativesWe are also in the process of converting our fleet of vehicles to LPG and have consolidated our engineer’s routes to minimise traveling and in many cases in central London, our engineers travel on foot or by public transport.
Think GreenWhat is really making a difference is that our employees have changed their working practices and now “Think Green”. From design through installation, maintenance and eventual disposal of redundant equipment, we encourage our employees to consider how we can reduce the impact we have on the environment. All waste and redundant equipment from our sites is returned to our workshop and separated for recycling. New Technology & The EnvironmentWe promote the use of new products such as Variable Frequency Drive (VVVF) that allow existing electrical motors to run more efficiently and last longer, in new installations we can use smaller direct drive motors. We have introduced LED lighting for lift cars that can reduce electrical consumption by typically 85-90% and is guaranteed to last for six years. See the EcoLED Lighting website for details. We can now locate all equipment within the lift shaft commonly known as Machine Room Less (MRL) thereby removing the need for a purpose built room for the machinery that must be heated/cooled and illuminated. You can see how you are affecting the environment by using the Carbon Footprint Calculator.
