Two Scenic Lifts

We were approached by a leading firm of architects with a problem, notably, the Cumberland Hotel was beginning a process of refurbishment and required two scenic lifts to allow access to the 3 new floors and conference rooms.

Design, Manufacture & Install

We were approached in May and were able to confirm that we could design, manufacture, install and commission the two lifts before Christmas. We were given a free hand to design the lifts and within one week were able to show artists impressions of what we could offer.

An unusual three legged structure was proposed, allowing the maximum surface area of glass to be achieved, whilst giving sufficient structural strength to support the lifts. These proposals were approved and from the artist impressions, manufacturing and working drawings were produced.

Variable Frequency Hydraulic Power

It was agreed that the power units would be the latest Variable Voltage Variable Frequency hydraulic power units manufactured by Bucher Hydraulics of Switzerland. This would ensure accuracy of floor leveling.

The glass lift shafts were erected, by Crown Lift fitters, to very exacting tolerances.
